Bio
Stan is the younger (half-)brother of Howard. Their mother is Ciara, but Stan's dad was called William, or Will. He died when Stan was very young, and Stan doesn't really remember anything about him.
The education system didn't really agree with Stan and he was diagnosed with ADHD as a child. He got in trouble a lot for being disruptive or talking in class, and not doing his work. However, he performed extremely well in music and drama.
He met his friend Kat in primary school, but they grew closer when they started doing music classes together in secondary school. Stan was a bit of an outcast and mainly hung around with his older brother and his friends in Year 7, so he was glad to make a cool friend like Kat, who was much more popular than him.
He joined a drama group at around age 15, which is where he met Rees. They performed in several amateur musical productions together, and even played Javert (Stan) and Val Jean (Rees) in a rather ambitious Les Misérables. Realising they worked great together and both had an interest in music, he introduced Rees to Kat, and together they formed their band, Mudpuppy.
They all went to the same vocational college for music, and then university too. They became an inseparable trio.
During his time at university, Stan met Christina, who he would become quite infatuated with. They dated for a while, and then Christina became pregnant. They were both conflicted about whether or not to end the pregnancy, but ultimately decided to have the baby. Their daughter, Audrey, was born. Christina died soon after, leaving stan a single dad. He and Audrey moved in with his mum/Audrey's nan, Ciara.
Years passed, and Stan, Rees and Kat all got "regular" jobs. Still, the passion never died, and they eventually started making music together again. After some perseverance, the band started to make enough money that Stan could find a place just for him and Audrey.
In the present day, Mudpuppy are performing at local fairs and festivals and slowly building in popularity. Audrey, now a toddler, gets to watch her dad on stage and attend the fairs with her nan, or uncles Howard and Andy.
Miscellaneous Facts
- Mudpuppy's sound is a fusion of Rees, Stan and Kat's musical influences, which is mainly alternative and glam rock with a musical theatre twist, even writing concept albums that follow a linear storyline, much like Go to School by The Lemon Twigs.
- Stan mainly does vocals, but is semi-proficient at a number of instruments and likes to throw lots of them into mudpuppy's songs.
- Stan's singing voice is comparable to Geordie Greep. He sings in a very theatrical and sort of conversational way. He's a great frontman because he loves to be the centre of attention! And he's a bit of a comedian between songs.
- He likes to play with gender presentation through the band's music videos and live performances, much of the time opting to create feminine-presenting characters. This is generally when he would use she/her pronouns, but he doesn't really feel strongly about how he's referred to in any case.
- His middle name is after David Bowie - his mum is a huge fan. Growing up with Bowie's music was also a big influence on Stan's own music.
